A call for testimonials... As part of the launch of my new website, I am asking for YOUR help to increase my success. I need some testimonials about the work that I do with you and the impact I have on your computer learning, comfort, confidence, or just clean up. If you have something to say, please send me a note to add to my site... and if comfortable with adding your name, contact number, website, or email address, please indicate that as well. Your support will help my business grow.
Thank you!!!
My Computer Angel - What's with the Name?

Well, it is time to spread my wings, and with it came a new concept for my business - thanks to many of my clients. My husband and I were discussing the redesign of Evtechie:

After three major designs, he finally got the computer angel logo inspired by a little trinket we saw on our aniversary. As I reviewed the new design, I mentioned that I looked like a little angel - and behold, most of my clients say, "You are such and angel (...for coming over, ...for helping me with this, ...for saving my computer, ...for cleaning things up, ...for helping me get along with my computer!) Gary (my husband) got to thinking what a great name - the computer angel. Of course, the domain name for "the computer angel" was taken, so we went with MY Computer Angel - and a new phase to my consulting business has begun!

We haven't officially Launched - but it is on the way!

We are currently rebuilding and organizing my site. If you bookmarked the old one, it will eventually redirect to the new one - no worries. Eventually, I will continue building my resources... I keep saying eventually because the web design business and Rollins College keep me busy. However, I am frequently designing resources for common problems that will be posted on the How-To pages of my site.

Some Warnings -

Many of my clients are looking for solutions to many things... Popups, Spam, Spyware, and other malicious computer sluggers that SLOW THINGS DOWN! I also am always on the lookout for items that make my job easier when I arrive at an infected machine.

I recently purchased (one of those rare things) a software registry solution to clear up the infamous system slowdowns. It did a great job of speeding up my shutdown time, but was evil with everything else. What was worse was the fight I had to go through to get them to respect the 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Please be wary of programs that want you to PAY for clean up... there are wonderful solutions that work much better, and remain FREE for the benefit of fighting spyware, spam, malware, and other internet mess-makers.

Here is a list of the Good and Bad -

Good

Adaware by Lavasoft
Registry Fix

Every systems starts out with a few programs in the "startup" folder of your system. What ever is in that startup folder is loaded on your system every time it boots up- and the more programs you install over time, the bigger that list gets, resulting in a gradual slowdown of your system on boot up.

HOW do I clean up the Startup folder - or put things in that I ALWAYS want to start up??

  • Go to Start --> All Programs --> Startup - This reveals the contents of the Startup folder without actually opening it.
  • Remove any unnecessary entries by right-clicking and then clicking DELETE (This doesn't damage or cause you to loose any of the programs
  • The more programs you remove from the Startup folder, the quicker windows will load!
  • To add programs, such as email, or other necessary applications:
  • Go to Start --> All Programs
  • Grab the icon from your All Programs list by right-clicking and then choosing copy
  • Go to Start --> All Programs --> Startup then right-click and select paste - You have now added a startup program!
